Get Involved

We are able to carry out our mission thanks in part to the volunteers that donate their time and talent to our organization. We couldn’t do it without them.

Volunteer Areas of Need

  • Share your talent by offering pro bono services in tutoring, tax preparation, legal work, or any professional field that will benefit our women.
  • Become a promoter to end domestic violence and invite an Emily’s Place representative to come talk to your club, group, or business to learn about signs of domestic violence and how you can help break the cycle for someone you know.
  • Apply your office skills to assist with organizational tasks, event mailings, or to work at Emily’s Place fundraising events.
  • Routine lawn maintenance and seasonal landscaping are needed to keep our campus beautiful. We have lawn equipment available.
  • Facilitate and donate supplies for a craft or hobby night for our women and/or their children.
  • Provide training in areas such as interviewing, computer literacy, resume writing, and vocational training.
  • Care for the children in our homes while their moms attend weekly programs on Thursday evenings (6:30-8:00 pm) or other occasions when they are attending an event.
  • Experienced handymen are always welcome to assist with all types of minor repairs or service needs at the Resident Homes and Emily’s Place office.
  • Assist with monthly automotive maintenance (oil changes, tire issues, etc.) on our two campus vans.

Volunteer Program

Volunteers will be integral to the operation of Life Under Construction’s Transition House and will be active in programs and services, administration, and governance.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • In-House Volunteers
  • Crisis Line Volunteers
  • Special Service Volunteers
  • Members of the Board
  • Soup Sisters Hosting Volunteers
  • Office/Database Volunteers
  • Events & Booth Volunteers

In-House Volunteer Program

In-House Volunteers will support the Shelter, residents, and staff. Although In-House Volunteers will not provide counseling for residents and will not always interact directly with the residents, the tasks the volunteers perform support the Shelter in many ways. Volunteers will choose the tasks they would like to help with. Some tasks include housework, cooking, childcare, or sorting donations.

In-House Volunteers at Transition House will work one three-hour shift each week. It will be preferable that this shift is at a regular time each week. However, we will do our best to accommodate everyone’s schedule. We will ask that each volunteer commits to at least 100 hours, which will take approximately one year to fulfill.
